The liberal studies degree program at BGSU offers a unique opportunity for students to create a bachelor’s degree tailored to their interests and needs. This degree is ideal for individuals who wish to enroll in traditional daytime, evening and online courses. To be considered for the Liberal Studies degree program, a student must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours.

Because it emphasizes breadth rather than depth, students should be aware that this program may not be appropriate preparation for admission to some graduate programs or for careers that specify course sequences and specializations. However, the collaborative effort to design a suitable program encourages a meaningful advising relationship between the advisor and student.

Curriculum

The liberal studies program allows students to select courses from a variety of academic departments or schools to create a program that caters to individualized interests. Online Option

The online option of the liberal studies program is designed for students who wish to complete part of their degrees via distance education. These may include students with work schedules or other life responsibilities that prevent them from coming to campus or people living out of the area who wish to complete their degrees at BGSU. Typically, a minimum of 60 hours towards the major is needed to complete the degree through distance education coursework. Individuals interested in distance education should meet with an academic advisor to determine if the online option would be suitable.
