Enrollment Steps for Incoming Students

Activate Your BGSU Account

So that you can receive all future information and complete your enrollment, you will need to be connected to BGSU. This account will give you access to an email account and to the MyBGSU Web portal to conduct many types of University business. From the My BGSU Web portal, you will select on-campus housing, set up your new student orientation date so you can register for classes, take placement exams and complete your schedule of classes.

Apply for Financial Aid

Incoming students for the fall semester may apply for federal and state financial aid anytime after January 1. To be considered for need-based aid, you must be an admitted student and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). When completing the FAFSA, be sure to list BGSU’s school code: 003018.

Choose Your Housing

The housing sign-up process for Fall 2013 has begun and students may access the housing application through the MyBGSU web portal. Assignments are assigned on a first come first serve basis beginning Spring 2013. The earlier you submit your preferences and make your initial payment, the better your chance of receiving your top choices!

If you have not activated your BGSU account, you will need to do so prior to completing your housing selection.

Visit the Residence Life website for details on all of your housing options.

Register for Classes

First semester freshmen are now able to register for Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) through the MyBGSU web portal. During this one-day program you will meet with an academic advisor, and choose your classes. Completed reservations for SOAR are required.

Transfer students are eligible to register for courses with continuing BGSU students beginning mid-semester, prior to the term they wish to begin. To be advised and appropriately prepared to schedule classes, you must contact your college advising office. Talk with your advisor about placement test requirements at BGSU. Advising offices and other helpful phone numbers are found below. When contacting your college office to request an appointment, be sure to indicate that you are a fall semester transfer student.

Orientation 101

Prior to your on-campus visit for Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR), be best prepared by visiting our online resource center, the Orientation Station. The Orientation Station includes important information, as well as a checklist of things to do and read about before and after coming to SOAR.

Transfer of Credit Information

An official evaluation of your attempted college credits will be made by the Office of Registration and Records. Questions regarding the transfer of credit from other institutions should be directed to the Transfer Evaluation Office in the Office of Registration and Records by email at transfer@bgsu.edu or by calling 419-372-7959.

If you are currently taking classes or plan to take more classes before enrolling at BGSU, have an updated official transcript sent to BGSU as soon as the courses are completed. This will ensure an accurate evaluation of your transfer credits.

Send Your Final Transcripts

If you are still enrolled in high school or college, once you have completed your final semester of high school or college, please have those final transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions (once final grades or the degree has been posted). The mailing address is:
